Gamefinder by Steve Jackson Games

Not long ago someone posted a link to an interview from a WotC exec. I don’t remember who or I’d give credit, sorry! If you posted a link to such an interview on a forum, comment and let me know so I can attribute this correctly.
Anyhow, to get on with it.
Part of the interview listed things Wizard’s has in mind for the future, including a directory of people so you can more easily find local games. The problem? I think you’re going to have to be a DDI subscriber and it’s probably only for 4E gamers.
Enter Steve Jackson Games.
Some time ago, they created an online app called “Gamefinder”. In this you list yourself, some of the games in which you’re interested and the area in which you live.
Again, like WotC is likely to do, they only list games which SJG publishes but there is a comment section where you can put anything. Also, SJG has a much wider genre selection than WotC, so if you’re really not into GURPS but you do want a gritty, modern game, you can search for something related and see if those people might be interested in your idea.
And of course, you can find gamers in your area.
Their database pings your email address every 90 days asking you to update your listing, so the listings of 709 people are fairly current and active.
The problem? With a listing of only 709 people, many area won’t have anyone except you – if you sign up.

There’s also nearbygamers.com (and I’m sure others).
I was also going to recommend http://nearbygamers.com/ . It also has the “not enough members signed up” problem, but it’s completely game agnostic.
I too recommend http://nearbygamers.com/ You can find listings for pretty much any game there is. It’s quick to join & easy to use. If more people use it, then it’ll only keep getting better and better!
I registered for it some time ago. In my opinion, it has a huge problem, listings can stay in there forever, even when completely inactive.
