Freebies Gamers Can Use

HTTrack – Saving Cool Sites

You find the coolest site for gaming EVER. You bookmark it. You read it religiously for several weeks then… life intervenes. You get buys. You spend less time online and don’t check back for several months. Finally, things calm down again but… it’s GONE!

How many times has that happened to you? To me, most recently when I went looking for Irony Games pages of generators. THEY ARE GONE! So sad :( HTTrack Website Copier would’ve let me save them if I’d had it, at least for personal use. I archive sites I use alot now because the internet is an evolving beast and you just never know what you won’t find tomorrow.

Creating Your Own Generators

It’s no secret that Seventh Sanctum is one of my favorite sites for finding cool generators for everything from elf names to cool evil tech. What you don’t know is that the site author will teach you to make your own as well! This file library gives you some existing code to modify and some advice on how to do so. Even if you’re clueless about php (like me) you can get started and make a nifty generator!

Fonts and More

Game master hand-outs are a staple of any game so when I saw lifehacker’s write-up about typography tools and free fonts, I was excited. The list includes software to organize and compare fonts as well as sites with free fonts for you to make that hand-out really original.

Just Add Wat… er, Dice

Rob Lang at the Free RPG Blog wrote about a product called “Instant Game” I really want to give a shot.

“Instant Game is the completely random gaming system through which the players and gamemaster determine the genre, setting, location and plot of the game at the beginning of each session. Years in development, the full version of Instant Game comes with all the rules for creating and playing a campaign, and has the full charts for creating every aspect of your game session, including optional tables for villains, major NPCs, personality traits and more.”

If anyone’s tried it, please leave a comment and let us know how it worked for you.
